The waste is higher, but that is how the costume suppose to be. The sizes are small, so I bought L. I am 5'8" and when I wore it for the first time I was 145. Now I am 135 and it fits even better. I also bought wooden - silver fan, designer silver shoes, purse and jewelry. I did not have a wig - I bought synthetic hair - the same color as mine and put it up using rollers. This is very expensive costume worth its money.
