The dreidel is an integral part of Jewish cultural, most famously associated with the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. If you're not familiar with this fun and addictive game, then grab a dreidel and learn how to play! It's very simple:
There is no minimum number of people required. Any number of people can play, from 2-100! To begin the game, each player starts with 10-15 game pieces. You can use anything from pennies, nuts, candy or chocolate. At the beginning of each round, all the players should add one of their pieces to the "pot". When the pot becomes empty or there is only one piece left, the players need to refill the pot by adding another piece. Any of the players can begin the game by spinning the dreidel. Depending on what side the dreidel lands on, that determines whether you get to take away or have to add pieces. Each side has a different meaning: "nun" means you do nothing, "gimel" means you can take everything in the pot, "hey" means you get half the pot, and "shin" means you need to add a piece to the pot. If you lose all of your pieces then you're out. When one person has the entire pot, that person wins, and the game is over!
